Spot the Signs: A Free Guide to Understanding Sensory Processing Differences in the Classroom
By Sensory Inclusive Schools, 7 January 2026
Sensory processing differences can have a significant impact on how students experience school, affecting focus, participation, and learning. However, these differences are not always easy to recognise, particularly when students mask their needs or behave differently across settings.
To support school staff, Sensory Inclusive Schools has created a free downloadable guide, Spot the Signs: Sensory Processing Differences in the Classroom.
What’s inside the guide?
The guide uses realistic, fictional case studies based on everyday school life to show how sensory processing and integration differences can present from Reception through to Year 11. Each case study includes reflection prompts to help teachers, teaching assistants, SEN staff, and professionals working with schools notice and reflect on sensory differences in their own settings.
The guide builds understanding and awareness, providing a helpful starting point for those new to sensory processing or looking to strengthen their confidence.
